About the Steel Wheel

Family owned and operated, The Steel Wheel Campground and Trading Post is in the heart of the Black Hills. Our welcoming 12‑acre retreat is nestled just six miles south of historic Deadwood, SD, along US‑385. Situated at approximately 5,300 feet elevation, our clean, well-maintained grounds feature a variety of accommodations, including modern cabin rentals, park‑model cabins, full‑hookup RV sites, and a 12-person lodge rental.

Our guests enjoy amenities including hot showers, clean restrooms, laundry facilities, and a dump station. At the heart of it all, our Trading Post offers fuel, supplies, deli fare, and seasonal daily specials from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

We stayed last week, and the place was awesome!  Clean facilities, big, clean, private shower/restroom accommodation, laundry, and a place to get some goodies and fuel up before you head out.  Extra Kudos to Dani, you know what you did, thank you so much for your help!  We will definitely be back the next time we are in the black hills. We rented to ATVs the night before we intended to use them. Showed up in the morning and within 15 minutes we were in the road. We put in nearly 100 miles and everything worked as it should and had no issues. Had the have the machine back by 5:30 and they said 5:45 was fine. They also require the tank to be full upon return which even after driving 100 miles it was only $25 to fill it. Dropped it off, put keys in the Dropbox and we were good to go!
